Infrastructure Bank Awards $2.5 Million In Municipal Infrastructure Grants for Pawtucket, East Providence, North Providence, East Greenwich, Lincoln & Cranston Projects

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Board of Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank has voted to award a total of $2.5 million in Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program funds to the communities of Pawtucket, East Providence, North Providence, East Greenwich, Lincoln, and Cranston for the completion of actionable, impactful projects identified through a request for proposals process.

“We’re pleased to award $2.5 in Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program funding to Pawtucket, East Providence, North Providence, East Greenwich, Lincoln, and Cranston,” said Jeff Diehl, Executive Director and CEO of Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank. “From upgrading sewer and stormwater infrastructure around affordable housing developments, to building a new riverwalk, to athletic field improvements, to Main Street revitalization, these grants will help our municipal partners implement infrastructure solutions that improve quality of life and spark economic development.”

Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program awarded projects:

  • $500,000 – Pawtucket – Reconstruction of sewer pipe connecting Prospect Heights affordable housing development to city sewer system.
  • $350,000 – Pawtucket – Funds for the design, permitting, and construction of sections of the Riverwalk, including a pedestrian bridge, along the Seekonk River.
  • $350,000 – Pawtucket – Dexter Street Commons mixed-use development; funds for green stormwater infrastructure, landscaping, increase accessibility, and reset curbing and striping for new parking.
  • $200,000 – East Providence – Construction of 48-space parking lot in the Watchemoket Square District for patrons of local businesses.
  • $100,000 – East Providence – Construction of an athletic field for recreation and field lighting.
  • $300,000 – North Providence – Coletti Multi-use athletic field, main entranceway improvements, utility upgrades, new drainage system and repave roadway.
  • $300,000 – East Greenwich – Main Street Revitalization; improvements to above-ground public utilities and below-ground wastewater system.
  • $300,000 – Cranston – Redevelopment of Knightsville Park; funds to enhance ADA access to the park, concrete ramps, new pavement markings, signage, crosswalks.
  • $100,000 – Lincoln – Replace 3,200 linear ft of asbestos-cement water main system within School Street.

The Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program was established to provide competitive grants to municipalities statewide to complete key infrastructure projects that accelerate affordable housing and economic development, with recipients required to provide a local match of at least 25%.
